What kind of grass can I grow in the shade?
We get this question alot, and you will not like my answer. All turfgrass grown in Florida likes full sun. Will some varieties take a little shade? Yes. Will they be as thick in the shade as in the sun? No. If you have an area that is extremely shady, grow a groundcover there or mulch the area. Most sod companies will tell you that they have a grass that will grow in that environment, and they will for a short period of time before they get diseased and slowly die out. Give us a call and we can help you decide whether you can grow grass in an area. Merry Christmas! |

Do we stop irrigating our dormant brown grass?
This time of year our customers are asking how to schedule their irrigation for the lawn. Can you cut back on water as the temperature cools? Yes. Should you stop irrigating? No. Every yard is different, but in alot of cases you can skip a week of watering as the temp continues to go down. Our best advise is to let your yard tell you when it is thirsty, then irrigate and develop a schedule. Just because your grass goes dormant and turns brown does not mean it is not in need of water. There is more going on than the eyes can see.. Merry Christmas! |

Where Does Bahia Grass come from??
As you are aware we grow all of our own grasses here at the farm, all but one. Bahia from our company or any other sod farm in Florida is cut out of cow pastures, off ranches. So what does this mean? It is not as groomed a product as one of our grasses grown exclusively for sod. Bahia is subject not to hold together as well, to have a few weeds, and to have a "shaggy" look to it. Is it a good turf choice? Absolutely, Bahia is a low maintenance more economical choice for a commercial project or even a home. Know you know... |
