Perennial Peanut:
We are very excited about one of our newest offerings here at the farm. The demand for Ornamental Perennial Peanut is really great. There are a few facts to point out when considering peanut groundcover. In the picture
below you see two different types of perennial peanut. The one on the left is Golden Glory (Arachis repens) and the one on the
right is Ecoturf (Arachis Glabratra). Both plants are similar, but they have major distinctions. Golden Glory spreads via stolons on the surface. Ecoturf spreads via rhizomes underground. The rhizomal structure can better acquire and hold water where as the stoloniferous plants are not as drought tolerant. Initially the Golden Glory type will be more aggresive, but in the long term arachis repens will take more water and care. In central Florida you will find more of the Arachis repens or Golden Glory available than you will the Ecoturf (Arachis glabatra). Make certain that what you get is Ecoturf, in the long run it will be worth the drive down to the farm. Give us a call or email and will be glad to explain more about perennial peanut and its uses in the landscape!

Perennial Peanut
Are you wondering if you are still on the right website? Yes , perennial peanut is a groundcover that makes a great lawn. For those of us that like to relax on Saturday, here Is our latest option. With its striking small yellow flower, this groundcover has the least environmental impact of anything we grow. Offering -limited to no mowing, no supplemental N or P fertilizer (it makes its own as a member of the legume family), and no pest or disease control needed, and best of all- true drought tolerance. Sorry folks! It doesn’t produce an edible peanut.
